The Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) is a high-level, international gathering of leaders of bioeconomy from all hemispheres and from diverse backgrounds that represent the interdisciplinary and diverse features of the bioeconomy. GBS2024 was hosted for the first-time outside Europe in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. GBS2024 emphasised resilient and sustainable food systems, bioeconomy as a key model for sustainable transition to less fossil dependent economies, conservation of biodiversity, and using innovation as a driver for new economic opportunities, especially jobs for the youth.
The GBS is a forum that fosters dialogue between widely different actors to promote sharing of best practices and to identify opportunities for global innovation and collaboration. The GBS series was started in 2015 and it is devised to be a global and inclusive summit. GBS2024 brought together bioeconomy experts from all hemispheres and from diverse backgrounds to represent the interdisciplinary and diverse features of the bioeconomy.
